‘’Hercules: In Search of a Hero’’

Directed & Conceived by Ioanna Katsarou,
Translated by Demetri Bonaros.
Cast: Luisa Alarcon, Demetri Bonaros, Luke Couzens, Helena Farhi, Alexandra Skendrou

"Hercules: In Search of a Hero" is a new theater piece presented by a multi-ethnic cast, combining excerpts from Euripides’ plays Hercules and Alcestis with original material to explore the meaning of heroism in our time.

It’s a political piece that explores, through poetic language and images, the meaning of heroism in our days from a feminine perspective.

With this performance we’d like to pose the questions: “What is really heroic in our days?”; “Can someone be named a hero when his/her actions involve violence?”; “How these stereotypes and mythologies of heroism were reproduced in our modern western societies and what is the position of women in them?”; “Do we need to create new mythologies and eventually a new concept of the world?”.
