Nine choreographers debut new work at LPAC on April 26-27.

Mare Nostrum Elements is proud to present the 9th edition of The Emerging Choreographer Series (ECS) on April 26 & 27th at The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center (LPAC).

As a showcase for emerging choreographers, Mare Nostrum brings a new generation of choreographers who are exploring their craft and beginning to make their mark in the dance world. This year ECS will feature 9 choreographers: Grace Tong, Alyssa Markowitz, Tomislav Nevistic, Heather Dutton, Mikaela Morisato, Ke’Ron Wilson, Gina Accordino, Erin McDonagh, and Danielle Champagne.

Audience members can look forward to performances that touch on a variety of topics. These dances explore such subjects as individual journeys, infinite possibilities, and connections between people, as well as gender, sexuality, and race. One choreographer shares her experience of how the anticipation of ridicule and violence for being trans in public stifles self-expression and encourages trans (and genderqueer) people to disappear themselves. Another performance explores themes of gender performance, fluidity, conflict, and liberation in the context of non-binary identities.

LPAC's Managing Director Steven Hitt, who has mentored alumni and collaborated with ECS since 2013, says "We have dances that are sure to take you away from your everyday life. You'll have fun, but you'll also be uplifted by the meaning of these dances."

The 9th edition of the Emerging Choreographer Series will be presented at The LaGuardia Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, April 26th, and Wednesday, April 27th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 until April 24th and can be bought online at www.lpac.nyc  After that, they will be $20, only available online at www.lpac.nyc
